MZTC8723: the Drive-Dock That Takes Any Drive, NVMe or SATA
The MZTC8723 takes both NVMe and SATA drives in its 10Gbps bay, with 4K 60Hz HDMI, 100W charging and 10Gbps USB: the drive-dock for the drives you already own.

Yesterday's drives are not yesterday's data. Most desks own a perfectly good SATA drive from an older laptop upgrade, and most storage hubs cannot use it: NVMe-only bays leave the older standard at the door. The MZTC8723, the dual-protocol member of the Mattzon SSD enclosure hub family, takes both. Its M.2 slot speaks NVMe and SATA at 10Gbps, accepting 2242, 2260 and 2280 sizes, which means the fast new drive works, and the drive in the drawer works too.
Dual Protocol: the Slot That Speaks Both
Dual-protocol is a hardware commitment, not a firmware trick: the bay's controller carries both the NVMe PCIe pathway and the SATA pathway, so the drive installed decides the behavior, not the bay. Slot an NVMe drive and the hub runs it at 10Gbps-class speed for heavy work. Slot an SATA drive, perhaps one pulled from a retiring laptop with years of life left, and it becomes a working backup volume instead of e-waste. For offices and families, that flexibility is the difference between storage products that fit and storage products that force new purchases.
The Rest of the Hub, Around the Bay
The dual-protocol bay is the headline; the supporting specification is why it anchors a desk. HDMI 2.0 output drives a display up to 4K at 60Hz. USB-C Power Delivery passes up to 100W to the host laptop. Two USB-A 3.1 Gen 2 ports at 10Gbps handle fast peripherals, with two USB 2.0 ports for the keyboard-receiver class. SD and TF 3.0 slots at 104MB/s cover camera intake. One USB-C host connection, one body, and the whole desk contracted into it.
Which Drive Should You Install?
The dual-protocol design invites a small decision matrix. Speed-critical work, video scratch disks, active project libraries: install NVMe and enjoy the faster class. Capacity and economy work: backups, media archives, the family drive: an SATA drive is the value play, and the hub runs it honestly. Families and offices can even mix strategies across two units. And because the bay is dual-protocol, the drive choice can change later without changing the hub, which is the definition of a future-proof purchase.
